Five Minute Christian 3

I chose to stand before God

in a quiet place

and closed my eyes.

I stopped praying

and just listened.

I imagined myself on the phone to God

allowing Him time to communicate with me

by His Holy Spirit

and His still, small voice.

It's amazing how much can be said

in five minutes.

Can you imagine how annoying it would be if you were on the phone with someone, and they did all the talking. They would tell you about what they thought about you and their relationship with you, what they would like you to do for them, and how they are feeling at the moment without letting you get a word in edgeways. Then they would end the call and go off to do something else. Hmmm...
That sounds quite similar to how we often interact during our communication with God in prayer. There is a different way to communicate. One we learn to do as humans, or try to learn. Speak and then listen, and let the other person speak. Even if it is for five minutes a day, it is better than nothing. It will change our relationship with God.

Five Minute Christian 2

I am so busy.

There's the washing
screaming to be put on.

The carpets need vacuuming,

the bathrooms are waiting,

and the weeds in the garden
seem to have grown bigger
suddenly.

A friend rings,

emails need checking,

and a book needs editing.

Homework must be helped with,
dinner prepared and cooked,
and a meeting attended.

There are twenty four hours in one day.

Sixty minutes in an hour.

One thousand, four hundred and forty minutes
each day.

God asked me for five.

Here's the thing. Spending five minutes with God sounds so easy, but it isn't. Because the world, the flesh and the devil's kingdom don't want you to spend a second with God. It took me weeks of trying to even accomplish five uninterrupted minutes with God. Every time I would try to begin, some incredibly important job that couldn't possibly wait five minutes entered my mind, and my resolve was disrupted and then derailed. It takes discipline to choose, to commit, and to follow through. There is immense treasure waiting on the other side of our choice to spend five minutes a day with God.

Five Minute Christian 1

God asked me to spend time with Him

Each day

Just five minutes

Being with Him

Not praying

Just being with Him

Not talking to Him

But listening to what He might say to me

And allowing His Holy Spirit to fill me afresh.

Most of the time we talk at God rather than to God. We don't wait for an answer but rush off into life counting our pursuits as precious to ourselves, not realizing what we are missing in the sacred to get on with the mundane.

Welcome

Welcome to my blog "Five Minute Christian"

I was going to write this as a book, but years later that remains undone. What I want to record here I believe is too precious not to willingly share. I believe this simple idea and strategy for spiritual living needs to go wider and further to help others in faith and life.

So here it is: Spending five minutes a day intentionally in silence before God will change your life for good.

Let me explain....
