I am so busy.
There's the washingscreaming to be put on.
The carpets need vacuuming,
the bathrooms are waiting,
and the weeds in the garden
seem to have grown bigger
suddenly.
A friend rings,
emails need checking,
and a book needs editing.
Homework must be helped with,
dinner prepared and cooked,
and a meeting attended.
There are twenty four hours in one day.
Sixty minutes in an hour.
One thousand, four hundred and forty minutes
each day.
God asked me for five.
Here's the thing. Spending five minutes with God sounds so easy, but it isn't. Because the world, the flesh and the devil's kingdom don't want you to spend a second with God. It took me weeks of trying to even accomplish five uninterrupted minutes with God. Every time I would try to begin, some incredibly important job that couldn't possibly wait five minutes entered my mind, and my resolve was disrupted and then derailed. It takes discipline to choose, to commit, and to follow through. There is immense treasure waiting on the other side of our choice to spend five minutes a day with God.
Today is a good day to begin this journey.
